When I once asked him, "How do you define success in life?"
He answered,
"Sometimes, a simple thing is a success. Sometimes I don't have specific goals, but I have dreams. If they come true, I will be happy. I am not overthinking about the future now. I live my days as they come. I don't know where I will end up, but I always remain optimistic about the best."
I was quiet. I never imagined his answer would be like that.
A simple thing is a success.
Sometimes, we forgot to appreciate ourselves for the small things. We only focus on the big achievements, forgetting that the big things never come without the small steps. In today's world, scrolling through social media and seeing many different people living what appears to be seemingly perfect lives. Maybe some of us find ourselves trying to copy them by buying expensive things, going to abroad for vacation, and posting pictures on our social media to get "likes."
I have to admit, there were times I tried like what they did. But in the end? I felt like I was chasing something I could never fully become. I can't be someone's life. I used to think that success meant when you can achieve something big, earn much money, or you can buy an expensive car or house.
But then, I understood.
We can't define our success based on someone else's standards. Often, we are so focused on the result that we forget to value the journey itself: the effort, the prayers, the patience, and the growth align teh way. We tend to rush, hoping everything will fall into place as soon as possible.
From his statement, I realized that I rarely appreciate myself for the small things. I have been so focused on the big goals then I end up overthinking. Now, I am learning to slow down, acknowledge my progress, and celebrate even the litte victories. Because sometimes, those small things are the real definition of success.
There is no "late." I only know one thing about myself: I have dreams, and I will fight for them with patience. My time will come.
Be patient, dear one.
Accept where you are today, because growth take times. You are not defined by the end result. You are defined by the efforts you give and the love you share to others.
You cannot define your worth by the end results of your efforts: because you are not the author of your life. God is.
With love,
Ihat

Yaa.
ReplyDeleteBetul sekali! Thank you for reading :)
DeleteThank you for giving me a reminder.. sometimes I am also confused when I wake up not knowing what to do without a goal, but someone reminds me, that I have privileges, I still have a mother to take care of who will always pray for me, I also have a shop that I don't have to pay rent for because it's in my own house. Then it turns out there are so many things that I am not grateful for just because I want to be someone else, want to get something else.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, we skip and forget the little things in this life. And these little things are very important and meaningful if we realize it. Thank you for sharing!
Deletesegala sesuatu kembali kepad Sang Pencipta ya

Semangat juga, Mbak!
DeleteWow, this journal really hits different! Loving how it reminds us that small wins are real success. No need to chase someone else’s life, just enjoy your own grind and celebrate every tiny step.
ReplyDeleteThank you for reading, Mbak!
Success is when our life today is better than it was yesterday. For me, this is the benchmark, not other people’s achievements
ReplyDeleteThat's right...
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to read reflections of an achievement. Because we always focus on big achievements. Perhaps because the effort we put in to achieve them is so great, we sometimes forget the small achievements we accomplish every day.
Through this article, we all learn the importance of loving ourselves first.
