Why Do People Hurt Others?

Why do people hurt others?

For me, people sometimes hurt others because they carry trauma, unresolved issues, or wounds from the past. We can pass our pain on to other people when our old wounds are triggered. Sometimes, we react to a situation in the present with anger, fear, or emotions that actually come from something that happened in the past.

I have experienced this myself. Sometimes, when I really want something, I can react like a little child who feels that they must get what they want. Looking back, I realize that my reaction was not always about the situation in front of me. It was often connected to an older part of myself that was still learning how to deal with certain emotions.

After going through treatment and learning more about myself, I slowly started to change. I became more aware of my emotions and learned to recognize when my reactions were coming from old wounds. I realized that my past experiences may have shaped me, but they do not have to control who I am today. I can choose to respond differently.

I also believe that hurting others does not always make someone a bad person. Sometimes, people hurt others because they themselves are hurting. However, understanding the reason behind our behavior does not mean that we should avoid taking responsibility for it. We still need to acknowledge when our actions hurt someone.

That is why I think apologizing is important. When we realize that we have hurt someone, we can say sorry, ask for forgiveness, and try to do better. An apology cannot erase what happened, but it can be a step toward healing and changing the way we treat others.

Perhaps healing is not about never hurting anyone again. It is about becoming more aware of ourselves, taking responsibility for our actions, and learning not to pass our pain on to someone else.
